The Woman as Virgo

Virgo = the 6th sign of the Zodiac
The astronomical sign for the month of Elul (August/September) is Virgo.

The Jewish year is based on a 19 year cycle and there are different "types" of years during that cycle - full, full-leap, deficient, deficient-leap, normal. If the woman is about to give birth, it must be a full year.

"The Torah uses both the Sun and the Lunar calendars. The sun is to govern 'their appointed days' and the moon, the season. The days are determined by the travel of the sun's annual circuit through the 6 gates of the eastern horizon. Although the Lunar cycle is not normally in sequence with the sun, we do find that the days match once every 19 years."

A new moon always marks the beginning of a new month on the Jewish calendar. Because the sun is in Virgo, the month must be Tishri/Marchesvan, which is our September/October.

Signs in the Heavens - Biblical Prophecy and Astronomy by John Abent

Tishri 1 = Rosh HaShanah = Yom Teruah (day of the awakening blast) = Feast of Trumpets = New Year = Yom HaDin (Judgment Day)

[these are all different names for the same day]

According to our sages the world was created on the 25th of Elul, so that Rosh HaShanah actually marks the 6th day of creation, the day on which God created man. (Vayikra Rabbah 29:1)

The Purpose of Creation, Timeless Patterns of Time

[First Adam born on Rosh HaShanah. Second Adam born on ????]

The month of Elul is a month of preparation for the "visit" of God on Rosh HaShanah. Throughout the month, the shofar is blown every day (some traditions state that this starts on the 2nd of Elul)
except for the last day of the month, which is silent. The next day, Rosh HaShanah (Feast of Trumpets), the shofar is blown all day long.

[And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence  in heaven about the space of half an hour. And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.--Rev 8:1,2]

Rosh HaShanah begins the 10 "days of awe/repentance/return" and culminates with Yom Kippur. On Rosh HaShanah Jews pray that they are written in the Book of Life and on Yom Kippur they pray to be "sealed" in the Book for the following year. The ten day interval is the time in which the world is judged--a time to reverse conduct--a time to rediscover our true selves.

[Reference to Book of Life in Revelation: He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.--  Rev 3:5

And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him (the beast), whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain  from the foundation of the world. -- Rev 13:8

The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.--Rev 17:8

And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.-- Rev 20:12

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.--Rev 20:15

And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.-- Rev 21:27

And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. -- Rev 22:19

Ten days:
Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink. -- Dan 1:12

[...behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days; be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. -- Rev 2:10]

One of the customs on Rosh HaShanah:

It is customary to go to seas and rivers on Rosh Hashanah because it says in the Midrash that when Abraham, our father, went to bind Isaac his son, Satan went before him and turned into a great river before them, so that the waters reached up to Abraham's neck.

At that moment Abraham raised his eyes to heaven and said "Master of the universe, you have chosen me, and been revealed to me, and said to me, 'Through you shall my Name be known in my world,' and now, 'The waters have come in even unto my soul' (Psa 69:2). If I, or Isaac, my son, should drown, through whom would your Name be declared one?"

Said the Holy One, Blessed be He: "By your life, my Name shall be declared one in my world through you." At once the Holy One, blessed be he, rebuked the river, and Abraham was saved.

(According to  Maharal)--Virtual Jerusalem: Those Awesome Days (

[And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood. And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth. -- Rev 12:15,16]

Another custom for Rosh HaShanah is the baking of the challah (special braided loaves of bread served in Jewish homes on the Sabbath and during festivals) in a rounded loaf instead of braided to symbolize a crown which points to the royalty of God.
