Subject: [bprlist] Mutant Bacteria Next Threat From Russia's Mir
From: "Ronni"

Mutant Bacteria Next Threat From Russia's Mir
http://www.reuters.com/
MOSCOW (Reuters) - Forget the danger of heavy-weight debris raining
down from space when Russia sends the Mir orbiter to a watery grave
this month -- the real threat could be mutant fungi, a researcher said
Tuesday.
Yuri Karash, an expert on the Russian space program, said there was a
possibility that micro-organisms, which have spent the last 15 years
mutating in isolation aboard Mir, could present a threat if they
survived the fall to Earth.
"I wouldn't overstate it ... but a realistic problem exists," Karash
told a news conference.
Karash, who has undergone cosmonaut training and is an aerospace
advisor, said his conclusions were based on research carried out by
Russia's Institute of Medical and Biological Problems.
Researchers have said that the fungi could be especially virulent if
mixed with earth varieties that attack metal, glass and plastic.
Western health officials have in the past expressed concerns about
micro-organisms that could be brought back to earth after a Russian
microbiologist 13 years ago discovered the first of many aggressive
forms of fungi inhabiting Mir.
Russian space officials have played down the threat, but visitors to
the orbiter have found numerous types of fungi behind control panels,
in air-conditioning units and on dozens of other surfaces.
Though surprisingly destructive, they give off corrosive agents like
acetic acid and release toxins into the air.

The Barna Update: 3/6/01
A bi-weekly e-mail from George Barna
Annual Study Reveals America Is Spiritually Stagnant
Here's the latest on America's spiritual condition, based upon our annual=20
survey of religious behavior. Looking at 13 key measures that we track ev=
ery=20
year, the bottom line is stability; there has been no real change in people=
's=20
religious behavior and beliefs in the past year. Among the highlights of th=
e=20
study are:=20=20
=B7 Born again Christians are 41% of the adult population - a figure
that hasn't changed since 1995, but several percentage points higher
than what was measured in the early Nineties.
=B7 Among the measures tracked in the past five years, eight remained
stable while just two showed a significant shift - and even those
changes were marginal.
=B7 Compared to a decade ago, five of the seven measures that were
examined in 1991 have experienced statistically significant change: an
increase in "born again" Christians and a decline in four core
spiritual practices.
To read about the specific measures and results, and how matters have
changed among the generations, genders, ethnic groups and regions of
the nation, read the entire report by hitting this link or visiting

Coaches may put microchips in footballers
http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_229255.html?menu=news.technology
A university has tested microchips on Premiership footballers to monitor
their play during games.
Liverpool's John Moores University has tried the chips on Liverpool and
Everton players by fitting them in their boots and shirts.
Academics believe the monitoring devices, which send coaches data on
players' workrates, speed and skill, could be in use in the next two years.
England football coach Sven-Goran Eriksson's aide Tord Grip said: "This may
sound like science fiction, but technology has come a long way."
He added: "I wonder how they would measure who is a good player, how they
would be programmed, because coaches' ideas differ."
Jim Lawlor, sports science lecturer at John Moores University, told the :
"Technical ability and fitness are almost taken for granted in international
football. So it's a chess game in which you seek delicate advantages."

Roman soldiers 'faced huge uniform bill'
http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_228072.html?menu=news.scienceanddiscove
ry
Oxford University scientists say Roman soldiers may have spent around 18 per
cent of their pay on their uniforms and cloaks.
The claim follows archaeologists deciphering a 2,000-year-old shopping list
written by a Roman soldier.
The note was originally scrawled on a wooden board covered in wax but the
wax has worn away leaving only the wood.
Computers exaggerated the faint scratches left on it and calculated the cost
of the soldier's clothing.
The 2000-year-old list was found by archaeologists at Hadrian's Wall.
It shows the uniform cost eight per cent of his salary, around 25 denarii,
and a winter cloak would have been an extra 10 per cent.
Virtual technology was used to make the scratched letters more distinct and
remove the wood grain from the image.
They identified the letters by the shadows they cast according to ABC
Science.

Subject: [bprlist] Excavating Dump Yields Lintel, Other Artifacts
From: Shophar_Sho_Good
Date: 6 Mar 2001 12:56:49 EST
Temple Mount Update
Excavating Dump Yields Lintel, Other Artifacts
http://www.bib-arch.org/barma01/strata.html#temple
Once again, politics and archaeology are entangled. The Jerusalem Post, in a
story headlined "Rare Temple Mount lintel neglected by Antiquities
Authority" (January 5, 2001), charges that a 3-foot-long carved stone
fragment from the Second Temple period, found in January 2000 amid earth dug
up from the Temple Mount and then dumped in the Kidron Valley by the
Waqf-the Muslim religious authority that administers the Temple Mount-is
languishing in the courtyard of the Rockefeller Museum, headquarters of the
Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA).
Depending on whom you speak to, the artifact is either so rare as to require
immediate publication or is merely an interesting-but not
revolutionary-architectural fragment that is being studied and will be
published in due course. Archaeology student Zachi Zweig, a member of the
Committee for the Prevention of the Destruction of Antiquities on the Temple
Mount, told the Post, "This stone is the most important artifact ever
recovered from the Temple Mount. It is part of a stately gate and it very well
could have been from one of the entrances into the Temple itself." But Jon
Seligman, Jerusalem district archaeologist for the IAA, told BAR that the
fragment is probably a door jamb rather than a lintel. While it could date to
late Second Temple times, he says, it may also come from a later period.
If you have been following BAR's coverage (most recently, "More Temple Mount
Antiquities Destroyed," September/October 2000), you know about the Waqf's
unsupervised digging on the Temple Mount since the end of 1999. Intended
initially to create a large gateway to the underground al-Marawani mosque (in
the area popularly called Solomon's Stables), the work on the Mount still
continues as of this writing. Last October, trucks again began to roll off the
Mount, carrying earth from a former park area along the eastern wall of the
Mount in preparation for paving. Archaeologist Eilat Mazar, a member of the
watchdog committee, reported that 70 trucks were counted exiting the Mount in
a two-week period this past December. No representatives of the IAA were
permitted to inspect the work.
In mid-January alarms again sounded when the Israeli press reported that an
open trench and a tunnel were being dug to link the al-Marawani mosque to a
smaller mosque beneath the al-Aqsa mosque. An Israeli police spokesman visited
the mount and denied the existence of a tunnel but confirmed that a trench,
described by the committee as more than 120 feet long and almost 3 feet deep,
has been dug between the al-Aqsa mosque and the Dome of the Rock. Contrary to
police denial of the tunnel, the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz reported that
eyewitnesses, including radio journalist Danny Zaken, have seen electric
lights in the tunnel and "an iron grill in the floor through which can be seen
remnants of an old floor."
The IAA has been hamstrung by the current political situation between Israel
and the Palestinians. The Israeli government, ignoring its own antiquities
laws, has allowed the Waqf to continue the Temple Mount construction without
any archaeological supervision. Nonetheless, the IAA has a responsibility to
study and publish the finds from the dumps. Seligman reports that sifting
through the dumps in the Kidron Valley and elsewhere has yielded building
blocks, pieces of thresholds, nails, organic materials, Second Temple period
coins and large quantities of ceramics. In addition, he says, the Waqf has
piled architectural fragments such as column drums on the Mount. These
potentially important artifacts will likely remain unreported for some time in
the storerooms and courtyard of the Rockefeller Museum. First publication of
the lintel is slated for a preliminary report in the IAA's Archaeological
News (Hadashot Archeologiot), perhaps within a year. More complete
publication in the Authority's journal Atiqot will not come for several
years. While the scientific value of the finds is limited because they have
been removed from their context on the Temple Mount, they are nonetheless
important additions to the sparse historical and archaeological data we have
from what archaeologist Gaby Barkay calls "a universal asset" that is now
being "irreversibly damaged."-S.F.S.

its bombers will continue to evade Israeli forces and perpetrate terror
attacks.
He added that the bombing attack that left three Israelis dead and close

9. NRP to remain outside the Sharon government
(BNI-MAR.6) Negotiations on Tuesday failed to narrow the gaps between the
right-wing National Religious and the Likud Party. NRP officials demanded
the Justice Ministry portfolio but Likud rejected the request, explaining
the Ministry of Justice would remain in Likud hands.
Likud offered the five-man NRP Party another cabinet post and two deputy
cabinet positions but the offer was turned down, with party leaders opting
not to join the Sharon-led national unity coalition government.=20
=91Y-net=92 is reporting that Likud negotiators were willing to turn over t=

the current daily PA attacks and warfare to continue and probably increase
in intensity.=20
According to the IDF=92s senior intelligence officer, PA Chairman Yassir
Arafat has given the green light to terrorist organizations and continues
providing an atmosphere that encourages continued terror attacks.
Malka added that Arafat continues to maintain control over the PA and
there are no signs indicating that he as losing control.

2. PA: Two youths injured by Israeli gunfire
(BNI-MAR.6) PA officials report that two youths, a male and female, were
injured by IDF gunfire north of the PA autonomous city of Ramallah. The
report indicated the two were injured by rubber bullets fired by Israeli
forces.
IDF officials have confirmed that there were clashes in the area =96
explaining some 150 Arabs confronted IDF troops resulting in their firing
rubber bullets.
In a related matter, PA officials in Gaza report a 36-year-old male was
injured by IDF fire several days ago near the Karnei Crossing and remains
in serious condition.
++++
3. Police at maximum deployment
(BNI-MAR.6) Police commanders report that the force is at maximum
deployment in an unprecedented effort to thwart planned terrorists attacks
inside Israel. Many members of the force generally assigned to desk jobs
have been deployed outside as part of the unprecedented number of law
enforcement troops working around the clock to stop terrorist attacks over
the Purim holiday weekend. 1,000 IDF personnel have also be placed on loan
to Israel Police and are serving as part of the force spread throughout
the country, placing a special emphasis on shopping malls and other prime
terror targets.
Police are using new equipment, including a portable x-ray truck designed
to inspect bags of pedestrians at bus stations and other location.
Checkpoints have been established in major cities and security is at an
all time high.
Hamas officials on Tuesday announced that the Netanya suicide bombing
attack on Sunday morning that claimed three lives and wounded close to
eighty, was the first of ten planned attacks.
Former Israel Police Jerusalem District Commander Aryeh Amit, now retired
from the force, stated that despite all efforts, there are no guarantees.
Amit added however that Israeli must continue to live and celebrate Purim
as in past years, calling upon citizens to come out to parties and
shopping centers as they normally would. Amit added that remaining at home
or avoiding holiday events would be nothing less than a victory for the
terrorists.
Amit added that the police couldn=92t remain at the current deployment for =
a
prolonged period of time, predicting that office personnel and other
non-field personnel would be returned to their regular assignments
following the upcoming Purim weekend. He added that specialized
anti-terror and other tactical units are being prepared for a long haul,
explaining that until a diplomatic solution is reached that will bring
peace to the region, attempted attacks can be expected to continue.=20=20

4. Holon cancels major Purim event
(BNI-MAR.6) Holon Mayor Moti Sasson has announced the city=92s major=20
Purim
celebration planned for Friday was canceled. Following talks with town
council officials and parents of area youth, the mayor realized that many
parents would not be permitting their children to participate in the
event, fearing it may be the target of the next terror attack.
Sasson hopes the event will take place sometime in the spring, adding the
cancelation was also the result of a predicted major winter storm.=20=20
In a related matter, officials in the Haifa municipality have announced
Purim celebrations in that city will go on as planned despite security
concerns.=20
++++
5. Suissa say no thanks to Jerusalem Ministry portfolio
(BNI-MAR.6) Veteran Shas Member of Knesset Eli Suissa, aligned with the
camp of former party leader Aryeh Deri, on Tuesday afternoon announced he
was not accepting the position of Minister of Jerusalem Affairs.=20
On Tuesday afternoon, the party=92s Council of Torah Sages met and decided
that Suissa would serve as the Minister of Jerusalem Affairs, considered
to be a junior cabinet post for the veteran legislator who under Deri=92s
leadership was the Minister of National Infrastructure.=20
Analysts see the appointment as another move by Deri nemesis Eli Yishai,
who now controls the party. Suissa stated the most junior of the five
cabinet posts given to the party was not suitable to him and he preferred
to pass the appointment.
Party Secretary Rabbi Raphael Pinchasi in response to Suissa=92s statement
commented, =93No problem. There are others ready for the position.=94=20=20

6. AG closes case against MK Hanegbi
(BNI-MAR.6) State Attorney General Elyakim Rubinstein has announced he=20
has
ordered the closing of the criminal investigation against Likud MK and
former minister of justice, Tzachi Hanegbi.
About a month ago, Rubinstein announced that Hanegbi would face criminal
fraud and bribery charges for his activities as head of the non-profit
=93Bon Voyage=94 organization while he was serving as a Member of Knesset.
Hanegbi has always maintained his innocence.
The Office of the Attorney General has now announced the case would be
closed and there would be no indictment, explaining there was insufficient
evidence to bring criminal charges against Hanegbi who may have been
passed over for a ministerial position due to the investigation against

Subject: [bprlist] Rapture
From: "John
Date: Wed, 7 Mar 2001 08:49:07 +1300
Dear Charlie,
Far from them being mistaken about the rapture I think you are.
You quote a verse "we are waiting for our blessed hope..." but misinterpret it because you ignore the context. The Hope mentioned in that text - which is Titus 2:13- is not some secret rapture but (to continue the quote) "the appearance of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ."
The key word here to fix the interpretation is the word "Glory". A word study of "glory" will quickly reveal that when it is used With respect to the coming of the Lord it always refers to the great last day of his victory at Armageddon. The coming of our Lord in Power and Glory is not some secret rapture but is his appearance on the day of the Lord - at the end of the Tribulation, the event described on Revelation 19.
Whether or not there is a Pretribulation rapture is a matter of debate - but it cannot be established by half quoting scriptures to give them a meaning different from what they say in context.

Subject: [bprlist] re millenianism...
From: "John
Date: Wed, 7 Mar 2001 09:16:48 +1300
Hi David,
You are correct in that the interpretation normally given to the "strong man" parable makes the Strong man Satan. And I think correctly so. Jesus is indicating a binding of Satan as a result of his work on the cross so that his house could be plundered - i.e. people could be saved. This is fairly standard interpretation of the parable and I see no reason to disagree with it.
But we must remember:
1. Parables are stories told to illustrate a truth - the truth being illustrated is in the context.
2. We should not therefore interpret a parable and arrive at a "truth" that is not in agreement with the context.
But even if I agree with your interpretation of the parable I don't think that it sustains the interpretation you are giving about the millenium.
Some points (probably covered by others already)
1. There is no doubt that the Cross was the decisive blow in the war between God and Satan. In it the Devil was defeated.
2. It is clear that The Devil still has power (I don't think you would disagree with this.)
3. This means that his defeat in the cross did not result in a complete binding of his power.
4. The church can - in Jesus name - bind the works of Satan. This indicates that though the battle has been won the war still goes on.
The picture traditionally given to explain the relationship between the battle at the cross and our part in the battle is this:
It is like World War 2 - on D Day the Allies invaded Europe and the decisive battle for the recpaturing of Europe from the Nazis was won on a few days. But the war dragged on for another 18 months and many battles until Germany captiulated. Germany was defeated on DDay, but not totally. It is the same with Satan. He was defeated at the cross - in Bible terms he lost his legal right through sin to control mankind, but he still pretends he has the right and decieves men into thinking he has. But the day will come when the Redemption bought by Christ on behalf of mankind will be claimed by Him for them and the Usurper will lose his possession rights - his legal rights have already gone.
In Scripture then there seems to be several stages to the war:
1. The initial defeat in the Garden of Eden.
2. The conquest of mankind by Evil Gen 2-11.
3. The reign of Evil and the preparation (in Israel) for the coming of the King.
4. The Defeat of Satan at the Cross.
5. The Struggle of the church. Eph 6 & etc.
6. The Final victory at the second coming. Revelation 19.
I should think you probably agree with all of this so far. But what about the Millenium? Why a Millenium?
I don't really want to get into that as it is a long discussion. But simply to say "If one does not interpret Revelation 20 to mean that there will be a period of time after the second coming when Satan will be bound in a special way and then released (which is what it says). Then what does it mean?" If it doesn't mena what it literally says then does it mean anything at all? It actually ends up being interpreted according to whatever one wants it to mean. And if we can do that with one passage in scripture then what is to stop us doing that anywhere else? This reduces the interpretation of scripture down to a matter of "What I think is right - even if no one else agrees with me" - i.e. personal preference based in personal ignorance and personal pride. Many have gone this way.
Rev 20 reads like a timetable. It makes sense as such. There are good reasons in the whole scheme of things why God would want to allow such a 1000 year probation period. The normal rule of thumb is that if the plain sense of scripture makes sense then we should stick with that.
It seems to me that the Amillenial position doesn't actually solve any problems, rather it creates a host of new ones - to do with the methodology of interpretation amongst other things.

Subject: [bprlist] antichrist
From: "John
Date: Wed, 7 Mar 2001 09:38:16 +1300
Hi again,
Your analysis of "antichrist" is good. Agreed that the use of it in Johns epistles is general and means Someone who is against Christ" and refers to many people - John says so - and not to an individual at the end of the age.
It is difficult that the name is not directly applied in scripture to a personage at the end of the age. This identification has been made by the church - rightly or wrongly.
But even if we abandon the title "antichrist" there is still strong evidence for a person at the end of the age who will oppose Christ and will in the fullest sense be "Antichrist". It is this evidence that has lead the church to attribute the name "Antichrist" to the son of Perdition", "The beast" and so on. I.e. there are many "antichrists" but at the end of the age there will be "THE Antichrist". It would be hard to interpret 2 Thess or Matt 24 in any other way but to acknowledge the existence of such a person whether we want to call him Antichrist or not.
For me it is a bit like the term "Trinity". Which is one step further back than "Antichrist" because it has not actual scriptural usage. But the elements that make up the doctrine of the Trinity are clearly in the Book so I am happy to accept the title. In the same way the elements of the doctrine of Antichrist are in the Book and so if we give it a title "Antichrist" like we have given the Trinity the title "Trinity" then thats OK by me. It is really helpful to have a shorthand way of referring to the doctrine of God and it is just the same with the Antichrist.
However whether or not there is an antichrist at the end of the age really does not prove or disprove the existence of a millenium - they are separate issues.
As for "bound"
Yes your dictionary definition is helpful - but there are degrees of binding. The dictionary only tells us about the total effect not if there is only a binding in a particular way. Satan is bound by the work of the cross - but the question is "In what way?" "Is it in the same way that Rev 20 Means?" "The fact that Satan still works - what does that mean to the idea of him now being bound?" "Is he bound hand and foot? or is he gagged as well? or is he trussed up like a mummy?"
The normal understanding is that Satan lost his legal rights over mankind and the earth gained through sin because of the work of Christ on the cross. But the redemption of the purchased possession cannot yet be reclaimed even though the price has been paid because the original owner (mankind) have to agree to the redemption by their kinsman Jesus. Thus we have the gospel age where we are trying to tell men that the redemption has been paid and we can accept it. This age comes to an end when every man, woman and child who canunderstand who is alive at that point of time has heard the gospel and either accepted or rejected it. Until the corporate fallen Adam has heard Christ cannot return - it would be a legal wrong for him to do so. Satan would have a legal argument for not being judged. While there are unreached people groups and individuals in the world Christ will not come to bring an end to this gospel age. The Gospel shall be preached to all men - and then the end shall come. Jesus said so.

IDF General: ''Not One Centimeter''
Weekend News Today
Source: Arutz-7
Tue Mar 6,2001 -- IsraelNationalNews.com O.C. Southern Command Maj.-
Gen. Doron Almog says that the IDF is against giving even one centimeter of
land to the PLO - including isolated communities - as long as no agreement
is reached with the Palestinians and their violence against Israelis continues.
Gen. Almog said yesterday that evacuating any Jewish community from
anywhere in Gaza would be interpreted as a sign of weakness, and would
invite further aggressions from the Palestinian Authority. "It is sufficient to
see how the Arabs viewed our pull-out from Lebanon," he said, and added,
"there is no difference between [the isolated community] Netzarim and any
other town in Israel. The IDF is obligated to protect and defend all of them."

Tue Mar 6,2001 -- The Palestinian Authority has expressed defiance in face
of Israeli military threats. Forces loyal to PA Chairman Yasser Arafat staged
a military parade in support of the mini-war against Israel and warned that
attacks will continue. Scores of masked Fatah gunmen marched through the
streets of Gaza City with semi-automatic weapons.
The gunmen also dismissed threats by Israeli Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Shaul
Mofaz of Israeli reprisals for Palestinian attacks. Palestinian sources said
the PA has accelerated preparations for any Israeli invasion. They said
hundreds of PA military officers have returned from training in such countries
as Afghanistan, Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Yemen.

Tue Mar 6,2001 -- Arab diplomatic sources report that the Egyptian military
is bracing for the prospect of an Israeli invasion of the Palestinian Authority
areas. The London-based Al Zaman asserted that Egypt's military has begun
mobilizing reserves for training in what was termed as preparations for a war
against Israel.
This week, an Israeli military spokesman denied Arab reports that Israeli
Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Shaul Mofaz accused Egypt of supplying weapons to
the PA. Earlier, Israeli sources said the Egyptian military is allowing massive
amounts of weapons and ammunition to be smuggled from Sinai to the Gaza
Strip.
Egypt is hosting an emergency meeting of the Arab League on March 12 in
Cairo. The meeting, headed by Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Mussa, is
meant to discuss the latest developments in the Israeli-Palestinian mini-war
as well as calls to renew a boycott against Israel. The meeting would include
the foreign ministers or representatives from the Arab League, Bahrain,
Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority, Saudi Arabia,
Syria and Tunisia.

Israeli police and army guard West Bank's ''green line'' in state of alert
Weekend News Today
Source: AFP
Tue Mar 6,2001 -- While the Israeli government has ordered a massive
deployment of police and soldiers along the green line -- following Sunday's
deadly bomb blast in the northern seaside resort of Netanya -- the border is
anything but shut. And this is troubling news for Israeli citizens who feel
increasingly vulnerable as Palestinian hardliners bring the violence of the
Palestinian uprising from the West Bank and Gaza Strip into Israel proper
more and more. Since rightwinger Ariel Sharon's election as Israeli prime
minister on February 6, Israeli towns and cities have been rocked by three
bomb blasts, killing a total of four Israelis. And the government has looked to
seal off the West Bank as a solution to this new flood of violence.
But along the green line, created when Israel captured the West Bank from
Jordan in the June 1967 War, Israelis and Palestinians are still living way too
close for comfort. Here in Kfar Saba, a short distance of six kilometres (3.75
miles) from Qalqilya, a Palestinian controlled town in the West Bank, Israeli
workers are constructing a north-south highway that will pass just 50 metres
from the Palestinian town. Police and army guard the workers around the
clock. At the crossroads leading to the Palestinian town, an Israeli military
barricade is set up, letting the occasional car enter Israel.
And by Taibeh, the police presence is imposing. "We have deployed an
exceptional number since the last wave of attacks," said a policeman
alongside the border. According to the Israeli press, the current deployment
by the green line follows a plan devised in 1992 when the late Yitzhak Rabin
was prime minister. Among proposed measures are concrete blockades on
roads to the West Bank, the setting up of surveillance towers, round-the-
clock patrols and electronic monitoring of the green line.
Already, by the northern West Bank town of Tulkarem, which is just 20
kilometres (12 miles) from Netanya, the military has started to build a
cement wall along the green line. And at the edge of Qalqilya, a cement wall
is being erected to separate the adjoining Israeli village of Matan and
Palestinian village of Habla. But even then, a police official at the border said
"it will not be possible to hermetically seal off the territories, nor to prevent all
attacks."

Subject: [bprlist] Strike While Its Hot.
From: Pam
Date: Tue, 06 Mar 2001 18:33:34 -0500
Dear Shophar_Sho_Good
Thank you for your response to Hot Line to Heaven´. The Dad/Opa
arises because some of the family I sent it to are my children and
others are my grandchildren. Praise the Lord!
No one knows for sure, I do not think, about when the dead in Christ
shall rise but there are valid reasons, I think, for considering the
possibility that it will be before the start of Daniel´s 70th week. In
view of that, I think it is incumbent upon us to encourage each other in
the hope of such salvation and not dwell on the need to be continually
fearing the time of the tribulation. If the rapture does not occur
before the tribulation starts there will be time, I think, during the
first 3 ˝ years, to warn the world about what will come, not at some
unknown time in the future but 3 ˝ years after the covenant with Israel
is confirmed and the daily sacrifice is started, once more. Praise the
Lord!
Many parts of the Revelation of Jesus Christ are still not clear, in my
mind. The book was a fascinating wonder to me for a long time until I
realized that, in order to make sense out of the seeming disorder, it
was necessary to apply the instruction given to John to write what was,
what is and what is to come´, to each of the sections, before attempting
to view the overall picture. When I did so things just sort of fell
into place´ but it only makes sense if I place the catching away before
the start of the 7 years. If the rapture occurs before the 7 years, I
am sure there will be a large number of Christians who will be caught up
but there will be a large number who will not be caught up. Many of
those who are left will realize what has happened and will, I think, be
actively warning the world, during the first 3 ˝ years, of what WILL
come. As a result of their efforts many will become believers,
saints´, and many of them will be killed, as believers are being killed
to day. They, I think, will be those of 6:11 who are given white robes
and told to wait. During the second half of the 7 years, however, the
persecution will become intense and many, many more will be killed for
their belief and witness for Jesus. The sum total, then, will be the
saints´ of 7:14. Praise the Lord!
Since the majority of those who are left will be Gentiles and their
witnessing will mean little to the Jews and I think God has already
picked out 12,000 Christians (Joes?) from each tribe to witness to the
Jews during the 7 years. Since their place is in the body of Christ, as
part of the bride, God will seal them in their foreheads so they will be
protected, as they will be from the locusts, 9:4, and they will be
redeemed, at the end of the 7 years, as in Rev 13:3-4.
(An aside: the Bible is not clear on the role of the bride, during the
1,000 years. The Bridegroom will be Jesus Christ, the King; and the
Bride, the Church, will be His Queen but, apart from the 144,000 who
will, apparently, be personal attendants to the King, we do not know
what the individual roles of the Church saints will be. I do not think
we will know until the so-called bema´ judgment. Those who are part of
the Royal Household of Our Lord Jesus Christ will, of course, be in a
very, very privileged position.)
Rev. 13:7 and 20:4, are, I think, tied together. The saints, here,
will be all those who have accepted Jesus Christ as the Son of God and
believe in their hearts that God raised him from the dead. They will
have died, believing, without having worshipped the image of the beast
or without having received his mark, during the 7 years. It is
interesting, I think, to note in 20:4, in addition to those beheaded for
their testimony of Jesus and the word of God, it will include "those who
had not worshipped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark
on their forehead and on their hand;" Some individuals, I am sure, will
refuse to worship the beast or take his mark, for reasons other than
belief in the Lord Jesus Christ, and will be killed. I think they will
all be guests at the wedding supper of the Lamb but only the first group
will have white robes and I think the others will be like the man of
Matthew 22:12-13 who is found to be without a wedding garment. (I have
some other thoughts about Matthew 22, by the way, which also point to a
pre-trib. rapture.)
I am not sure what to say about Rev. 13:7. We know that God already
knows what each of us has done; what each will do and, what the end will
be. This scripture could be emphasizing the fact that He is does know
and to warn those who face the tribulation that taking up arms will
avail them nothing, they will have to rely, completely, on Him. Praise
the Lord!
I pray the above will be of help to you. As I said, there are many
things I do not know, and these could be off base, but I think they give
an understandable, and logical, picture of that which they cover.
Praise the Lord!
God Bless you. Charlie Baker.

Dear Ronni:
One book outshines all the others, in my opinion, and that is the
Bible. My favorite edition is the KJV and the complimentary book is
Strong's Exhaustive Concordance. I have no doubt the Bible is the
favorite book of all the folks on the list and suggest it be accorded
first place in your survey. God Bless you. Charlie Baker.

I have to agree with Charlie and Sunday. After all, the Bible is not just a book: John 1:1.
Anyone read 'Bondage of the Will' by Martin Luther?

I would like to throw out my 3 favorite books.
The Sabbath: It's Meaning for Modern Man by Abraham Joshua Hershel
It presents a true feeling for the Sabbath. It talks about the
holiness of time, among other things. It has inspired within me a true
love for the Sabbath.
Messiah, I & II by Avi Ben Mordechai
He discusses the teachings and life of the Messiah from a Hebraic
mindset instead of our western mindset. An invaluable tool in
understanding the NT in it's correct context.
I know I'm cheating but I can't help it. My third choice is a 5 book
series by Bodie Thoene called The Zion Chronicles. It is a historical
fiction series that brings to the heart what the Jews went through to get
their beloved Israel.

Teen Mom Throws Baby To Hungry Dog

Brooklyn baby died the kind of death that could make the toughest cop
or firefighter cry.
A teenager who hid her pregnancy from her ailing mother and kid
sister delivered the infant herself several days ago in a Bedford-
Stuyvesant apartment, police said yesterday.
Then 16-year-old Lisa Small allegedly hurled her child into the small
yard behind her tenement, where the family's snarling, hungry dog was
waiting.
Police learned her grisly secret yesterday after a neighbor called
911 and reported a "newborn being eaten by a dog."
Fire Lt. Dennis Murphy arrived at 590 Bainbridge Ave. and found in
the icy, muddy yard a pit bull/Rottweiler mix gnawing on a corpse so
mangled it was impossible to determine its sex.
"At first, we thought it was a doll," Murphy said. "It was too
terrible to think it was a baby."
Murphy said rescuers used fire tools to subdue the dog while police
sprayed it with Mace to loosen its jaws from the baby's body.
"Unfortunately, the infant was dead already," said Police Capt.
Patrick McAndrews.
The dog, which neighbors said was called Midnight and was kept half-
starved, was taken to a Brooklyn pound.
Small, a sophomore at Thomas Jefferson High School, told detectives
at the 73rd Precinct the baby was stillborn. No charges were
immediately filed against the teen, who was being questioned at the
stationhouse last night.

ST. LOUIS -- A 10-year-old boy was found mauled to death by dogs
Tuesday morning in a neighborhood park, police said.
Authorities said the body of Rodney McAllister was discovered under a
pine tree by a passerby. A coroner's autopsy showed that dog bites
killed the boy.
"He was literally eaten by the dogs," Police Chief Ron Henderson
said. "They fed off of him."
Rodney was last seen at about 5 p.m. Monday when his mother said he
went to a park near his home to play basketball with friends,
Henderson said.
When Rodney didn't come home, his mother, Gladys Loman, thought her
son had spent the night with a friend's and did not report him
missing to authorities, Henderson said.
Loman, 35, was jailed Tuesday on charges of child endangerment. No
bond or hearing was immediately set. A 13-year-old son was placed in
the care of authorities.
It was not immediately clear when Rodney died or how many dogs
attacked him, police said. The boy's body had been bitten repeatedly,
and his clothes were strewn through the park.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- A 12-year-old boy was hospitalized with neck
wounds after a pit bull attacked him Tuesday at a neighbor's house.
Michael Morraro, 12, of the Kensington section of North Philadelphia,
was reported in good condition late Tuesday night at St.
Christopher's Hospital for Children.
The boy was bitten when he tried to leave a neighbor's kitchen where
he was playing with the dog, and was treated for more than 10
puncture wounds in the neck, said Dr. Matthew Moront, director of
trauma at St. Christopher's.
Moront said Morraro probably would be released in about two days
after the danger of infection passed.
"This could have been a life-threatening injury," Moront said.
Moront said he wanted to warn parents that in cases where children
are bitten by dogs, it is usually a dog that the child knows

Interview: Bassem Eid - rock throwing is non-violent
Aaron Lerner Date: 7 March 2001
"I am not talking about obedience: I am talking about civilian
DIS-obedience. We, the Palestinians, have the full right to continue our
resistance against the occupation, to liberate our occupied territories and
to declare our independent state. We can do so through non-violent
resistance." PHRMG Director Bassem Eid interviewed online by the Washington
Post.
IMRA interviewed Bassem Eid, in English on 7 March 2001:
IMRA: I just saw your comment about non-violent resistance and I was hoping
you could help me out. "Non-violence" is a question of definition. I have
interviewed Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti and he says that it is non-violent
when you throw rocks but do not shoot guns. What do you consider to be a
non-violent activity?
Bassem Eid: Violence is shooting.
IMRA: So rock throwing is nonviolent in your book?
Bassem Eid: I think that the rocks and the stones in the last intafada gave
the Palestinians so much international support. . .
IMRA: But that is not the question. We are using a language in which
people use the same words to mean different things. If Palestinians go out
and throw rocks at security people and settlers is that a non-violent
activity?
Bassem Eid: But don't forget on the other side that using the stones is
less dangerous.
IMRA: That is not the question. You are using the term "non-violent
resistance and this is a source of confusion because when a westerner hears
the term "non-violent resistance" within his field of reference it does not
include throwing rocks at people. They have a vision of Martin Luther
walking down the street with arms linked in Selma Alabama. Martin Luther
King did not walk down the street throwing rocks at policemen.
I am not making a value judgement. Just noting that you are using the term
"non-violent resistance" and that it is a term that in western eyes has
another interpretation.
Just so I understand. You are saying that it is OK to throw rocks. That you
can kill policemen and settlers with rocks but you cannot shoot them?
Bassem Eid: I do not remember a case that someone was killed getting hit by
a stone.
IMRA: Absolutely. There are a whole series of people who have been killed
by rocks. They were hit by rocks and lost control of their cars.
Bassem Eid: I do not remember such an incident. I know about people who
were injured. Please send me a list.
IMRA: I will. But for the time being let's just finish this conversation: As
far as you are concerned, when you talk about non-violent resistance you
include throwing rocks?
Bassem Eid: Yes. Yes.
[IMRA will release list later of other cases but will mention now that an
Israeli driver was killed on the Tel Aviv - Haifa highway in October when he
lost control of his car after being stoned by Israeli Arabs.
This interview is illustrative of the problem reporters frequently encounter
with such terms. They have to go the next step and ask what "non-violence"
means. There is a similar problem when a Palestinian says the Jews will be
left alone once they halt their aggressive activities and the reporter
declines to ask for a definition of these activities - as it may turn out
that Jews LIVING in Israel may be considered an "aggressive activity"]

explosions must be avoided since they will cause undo alarm, especially
among the senior citizen, foreign laborers and very young populations that
may be less likely to discern the origin of the blasts.
Emergency medical service officials have repeated annual words of warning,
pointing out that every year on Purim, there are calls for injured
children who in many cases lose digits of hands or sustain eye injuries
resulting from playing with fireworks which by the way are illegal. EMS
officials concurred with the chief rabbi regarding flame retardant
costumes and other Purim associated substances that increase one=92s
likelihood of injury.=20

now, we would be unable, in the very near future, to supply even the most
basic needs, like drinking water." Tal added that the will recommend an
additional cut in the water supplies for agricultural purposes.=20
The main reason for the proposed measures, according to Tal, is the
decrease in the level of water in the Lake Kinneret due to insufficient
rainfall last year. The Kinneret's level is expected to drop to an
all-time low this year. (Israel Consulate- NY)=20=20=20=20

21,000 salaried employees in the growing hi-tech sector. Hi-tech jobs had
a large impact on overall figures for the business service sector, which
reported a 15 percent increase in salary growth in 2000 compared with 1999
figures.
Another noticeable improvement was an 11.5 percent wage increase in the
banking, insurance and finance fields. These growth figures contributed to

NEW YORK - The recent violence involving rock-throwers in Florida
and New York, resulting in the death of a college professor and the severe
wounding of a police officer, illustrate the dangers that Israelis face
every day from Palestinian Arab rock-throwers, the Zionist Organization of
America (ZOA) has pointed out.
University of Alabama Professor Julie Laible, 32, was killed when a
rock thrown from an overpass crashed through her car's windshield and
struck her in the face on Interstate 75 near Tampa, Florida, on March 28,
1999. Meanwhile, on the Southern State Parkway in Long Island, New York, a
New York City Police Department housing officer, Sgt. James McAleer, 41,
was hospitalized in critical condition after a rock thrown at his car
smashed through the windshield and struck him in the head, fracturing his
skull, on March 26, 1999.
April 3, 1999, will mark the first anniversary of the Palestinian
Arab rock-throwing attack, on a highway on the outskirts of Jerusalem, in
which an elderly Israeli man, Eliezer Frankel, suffered permanent brain
damage.
ZOA National President Morton A. Klein said: "Rock-throwing is not
civil disobedience. It is ugly violence against human beings, pure and
simple. We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Professor
Laible, and we wish Sergeant McAleer a speedy recovery. We hope these
tragedies will help the American public and media recognize the serious
dangers that Israelis face every day from Palestinian Arab rock-throwers."
Three young men who threw rocks at cars on Washington, D.C.'s
Capitol Beltway in 1990 were convicted of "assault with intent to maim" and
"assault with intent to disable," and received prison terms of 38 to 40
years for their crimes.
The ZOA president pointed out that over the years, there have been
tens of thousands of Arab rock-throwing attacks against Israelis, with
thousands of Israelis injured, some of them permanently. In at least 8
instances, Israelis --or Arabs mistaken for Israelis-- have been killed in
such assaults:
* January 29, 1983: Esther Ohana, 20, is killed when she is struck
in the head by rocks thrown at the car in which she is riding. (Jerusalem
Post, February 13, 1983)
* February 24, 1989: Benny Meisner, a young Israeli soldier, is
struck in the head and killed by a chunk of concrete thrown by an Arab in
Nablus. (Jerusalem Post, February 27, 1989)
* September 3, 1989: Reserve soldier Haim Sharabani, 38, dies from
wounds suffered when he was struck in the head in an Arab rock-throwing
attack in Khan Yunis, Gaza, two weeks earlier. (Jerusalem Post, September
4, 1989)
* November 15, 1990: A 4 year-old Arab boy, from the village of
Kafr Talouza (north of Nablus), is killed when he is struck in the head by
a rock thrown by Arab rock-throwers who mistook the car in which he was
riding for an Israeli vehicle. (Yediot Ahronot, November 16, 1990)
* February 24, 1993: An Israeli car traveling in the Gush Etzion
region is attacked by Arab rock-throwers, causing the car to crash. An 11
year-old passenger, C
